When news of Billy Ray Cyrus and Elizabeth Hurley’s romantic relationship broke last year, some people were immediately skeptical. Apparently, Elizabeth’s son was one of them, according to a new report. In recent days, Billy Ray and Elizabeth have sparked engagement rumors because of their Instagram posts. When asked about the engagement rumors, Billy Ray simply replied, “I got me a new guitar,” per a video obtained by the Daily Mail.
So, that doesn’t exactly answer any questions, but the engagement rumors have taken off anyway. And with a potential wedding on the horizon, Elizabeth’s 24-year-old son, Damian, allegedly has some concerns.
He seems to feel OK about their relationship now.
But that wasn’t always the case, based on what one source told In Touch. According to the insider, “Damian took a while to warm up to Billy Ray.” At the same time, he “wants what’s best for his mother.”
Although Billy Ray and Elizabeth have not confirmed their engagement at this point, this particular source suggested that Billy Ray did propose and Elizabeth said yes. So, given that she’s (allegedly) made this decision, her son doesn’t have any plans to intervene.
“He’s not going to sit around fighting her on it or trying to drive any kind of wedge between them,” the source claimed.
But he allegedly thinks his mom should take certain measures to protect herself.
Apparently, some of the concerns Damian has stem from the fact that his mother is wealthier than Billy Ray. “That being said, he does want her to protect herself and to go into the marriage with her eyes wide open,” the insider told the publication. They added that “a prenup is a no-brainer” and “Damian is absolutely putting his foot down about that, since she’s worth so much more.”
If they really do plan on getting married, this would be Billy Ray’s fourth marriage. He was previously married to Cindy Smith for five years before marrying Tish Cyrus in 1993. Billy Ray and Tish were married for nearly 30 years before eventually splitting up in 2022 (they both had filed for divorce before but called off those divorces and decided to try to repair their relationship).
In 2023, Billy Ray married Firerose. They finalized their divorce in 2024. Earlier this year, Firerose accused Billy Ray of “narcissistic abuse.”
Recently, people noticed rings in Billy Ray and Elizabeth’s Instagram posts.
Elizabeth took to Instagram to share a selfie on October 12. Her mirror selfie showed her wearing a ring on that finger, leading some fans to suspect that she might be engaged. However, she simply captioned the post with, “Day 1 on set #TheBurbs.” Damian commented on the post with, “SO EXCITED ❤️❤️❤️”
Of course, it would be entirely reasonable to assume that his comment had nothing to do with the ring. He might just be excited about his mom’s role on the show.
But fans became even more suspicious when Billy Ray posted something that referenced a ring as well. On October 15, Billy Ray shared an update that had nothing to do with his relationship with Elizabeth. However, he set it to the song “Something With A Ring To It” by Mark Collie and wrote, “Kinda has a ring 💍 to it,” in the caption. Given that Elizabeth had shared her ring post just days before, some fans assumed these things had to be connected.
Damian commented on this post too, with the celebratory “🥳” emoji. Of course, this is pretty ambiguous; there are plenty of reasons why Damian might be happy for Billy Ray. But if you’re looking for signs, it could definitely seem like one.
