Sara Ramírez has officially filed for divorce from their husband three years after announcing their separation. Ryan DeBolt and Sara married in 2012. In court documents, the 48-year-old actor cited irreconcilable differences as reason for the split. The Grey's Anatomy star came out as nonbinary in 2020 and uses they/them pronouns. The listed date of separation for the former couple is January 2018, which is over three years before the couple's split was announced on social media.
"Ryan and I are no longer together," they shared in an Instagram post in July 2021 that has since been deleted. "We remain loving and supportive in how we are choosing to forge our new individual paths. Thank you for holding space around our choices and respecting our families' privacy as we navigate this process on our own terms."
Per the divorce filing, the Sara requested the pair’s assets be divided according to their prenuptial agreement. Sara's filing also requested for the court's ability to award spousal support for either party be terminated.

In an interview with People in 2021, they reflected on their self-discovery. "There was so much for me to unlearn, and I faced my own internalized oppression," Sara said at the time. "In this society, we often feel this pressure to live in these rigid boxes. When I stepped out of the box I had put myself in, I discovered my own possibilities for change."
