The world lost a talented young actor on January 22, 2008. Heath Ledger was found dead in his New York City apartment bedroom by his housekeeper. His cause of death was eventually found to be an accidental overdose of prescription medication.
Heath was renting the 4,400-plus-square-foot unit at 419-421 Broome Street for around $25,000 a month. It was recently sold to an undisclosed LLC for $14.25 million in an off-market deal. It is hard to believe that Heath’s death occurred in the home 15 years ago.
The apartment and building saw changes after Heath’s death. The building was originally built in 1873, so updates were inevitable. It was converted into condominiums, and two additional stories were added. Heath’s former unit has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Decorative embellishments include coffered ceilings and cast-iron columns.
The kitchen now has high-end appliances and is a chef’s dream. The primary bedroom features exposed brick, while the bathroom boasts marble walls and flooring. There’s a fireplace to help keep warm on those cold snowy NYC nights.
