A Horse In Australia Tries To Catch The Train To Possibly Shorten Their Commute

Train passengers in Sydney, Australia, got a big surprise on April 5, 2024. A horse appeared on the platform at the Warwick Farm station as if he was trying to catch the next ride out. He even knew to stand behind the yellow safety line. The train operator was aware of the unique situation and did not open the doors for the animal to get on board.

It turns out the horse got loose from a local stable. Someone broke in and the horse seized the opportunity to make a run for it. The break-in is currently under investigation. The animal is back safely at home and did not sustain any injuries. One can infer he bragged about his adventures to the other horses though. It’s a great story.

Keith Morrison, who works with the animal as a stable hand, was impressed at the horse's directional sense. He wonders how the heck he found the stairs to the platform in the first place. The creature paced for about a half an hour before being reunited with owner Annabel Neasham. “[Our] horse is back at home, none the wiser, not even a scratch on him,” she told 7 News.

Video of this incident is making the rounds on social media. New South Wales Premier Chris Minns joked about it. “Didn’t realise I needed to say but — horses aren’t allowed on our trains, sorry folks,” he quipped on X.

The Sydney Trains account also got in on the fun. It is not every day there is a horse trying to board a train, after all. “The chances of a horse boarding your train are low, but never zero,” it joked.
