Howard Stern has reportedly set a pretty strict dress code policy, and people are finding it quite sexist and old-fashioned. A new report from The U.S. Sun cites multiple sources and alleges that women are held to different standards than men are at The Howard Stern Show‘s SiriusXM New York City work space.
Unfortunately, the idea that certain expectations would exist for women and not men is not necessarily surprising and definitely not unheard of, but obviously, people have complaints.
Essentially, men seem to be able to wear whatever shoes they want.
Meanwhile, women are expected to forsake comfort in the office, just in case “certain” executives show up. “There is this rule that it doesn’t matter what kind of footwear men wore, but the women are not allowed to wear sneakers at work,” one insider told The U.S. Sun. In 2026?
Of course, it’s not unusual for a workplace to have rules about footwear or to ban sneakers. But the fact that the rule sounds gendered (for some reason) is what has really stuck out to people.
The tabloid’s source added that this detail is what makes the rule so “insane.” They said, “Times have changed but also maybe don’t have different rules for men and women.”
Apparently, some women keep more than one pair of shoes at work.
You know, just in case certain people show up and are concerned about their footwear, for whatever reason. The source said that some people might wear sneakers to work but also have “non-sneakers” with them “in case certain execs are expected in the offices.”
Apparently, Stern’s rigid rules continue to to be enforced even when people are working from home. Presumably, these rules are not about footwear. We can only hope that employees are not expected to wear heels in their homes when joining Zoom meetings. However, at the height of the Covid pandemic, they allegedly had other strict rules to worry about.
“At some point during the pandemic, they started to try to do a dress code over Zoom,” one insider added. “Staff weren’t supposed to wear sweatshirts or hats during the Zoom calls.”
In the past, Stern was called out for misogynistic commentary.
He kind of became famous for being offensive, but he has arguably changed his ways. Old clips from his show have resurfaced in recent years, especially ones involving President Donald Trump. In one of them, Stern and Trump talked about what it would be like to have sex with Lindsay Lohan when she was just 18 years old.
More recently, however, Stern has faced backlash for a totally different reason—for being too “woke,” apparently. He’s actually glad that people perceive him as “woke,” even if those who say it mean it as an insult.
“I hear that a lot, that I’m not good anymore because I’m woke,” Stern said in 2023. “By the way, I kind of take that as a compliment, that I’m woke… And if woke means I can’t get behind Trump, which is what I think it means, or that I support people who want to be transgender or I’m for the vaccine, dude, call me woke as you f—ing want.”
