Hugh Jackman And Deborra-lee Amicably Separate ‘With Gratitude, Love, & Kindness’

On September 15, 2023, Hugh and Deborra-lee Jackman announced they are ending their marriage of 27 years. The couple released a statement exclusively to People magazine. They are trying to end things as amicably as possible.

The couple says they are going their separate ways to grow as individuals but still value their family. They have two adult children, Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18. They request privacy at this difficult time and will not be speaking on the matter further.

"We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,” their statement begins. The couple wed in 1996.

"Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives,” they go on to say. They sign off as “Deb and Hugh Jackman," and add: "This is the sole statement either of us will make."

Hugh and Deb first met in 1995 on the set of the Australian TV series Corelli. Hugh was just out of drama school and Deb was an older, established actress. They quickly became more than costars and fell head over heels in love. They were married just one year later on April 11, 1996. They were last seen out and about together in July at the men’s finals at Wimbledon.

In April, Hugh gushed about Deb on Instagram commemorating their wedding anniversary. “I love you Deb,” Hugh wrote. “Today is our 27th wedding anniversary. 27 YEARS!! I love you so much. Together we have created a beautiful family. And life. Your laughter, your spirit, generosity, humor, cheekiness, courage and loyalty is an incredible gift to me. I love you with all my heart.”
