Matthew Perry's death has reportedly been "a completely devastating blow" to Jennifer Aniston, who also lost her father not even a year ago. Page Six reported that she is not taking the shocking news well at all. Matthew Perry died on October 28, 2023, at age 54. The Friends cast released a joint statement, saying that they were "utterly devastated." A source told Page Six that Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox were struggling the most, and added that "Jen is probably the one who is struggling most acutely."
"We were more than just cast mates. We are a family," the Friends cast said in a statement to People. "There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world."
Although every person from the cast is grieving, the source told Page Six that Matthew's death has "knocked [Jennifer] off her feet." In a 2004 interview, Jennifer cried when speaking of Matthew's struggles and thinking of losing him. "He's struggled, and we didn’t know. We weren’t equipped to deal with it. Nobody had ever dealt with that," she said at the time, speaking of Matthew and his addiction to alcohol and drugs.

Although Jennifer admitted that the cast didn't really know what to do, in 2022, Matthew revealed that Jennifer approached him and said, "We know you're drinking" at a point when Matthew was both succeeding in his career and battling with drug and alcohol addiction. “She was the one that reached out the most. I’m really grateful to her for that," he said at the time.
