Well, Jimmy Buffett has left this Earth and he's finally off to the Margaritaville in the sky on Friday, September 1, 2023. At 76 years old, it was time for the beloved folksy singer to pass on but he will always be remembered for his wonderful songs and his printed Hawaiian shirts.
A statement on the performer's website states:
“Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs, He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many.”
Jimmy's own classification of his music was great. He referred to it as “drunken Caribbean rock ‘n’ roll” and we think that's pretty much the perfect description.
Jimmy was obviously most well-known for his ubiquitous hit "Margaritaville," which has permeated many a vacation destination's crowded bars all over the world. Frankly, the song is undeniable and the lyrics conjure up such a chill image of relaxing on a tropical beach somewhere, cocktail in hand, just soaking in the sun.
So today, let's all raise a drink to the man that single-handedly made us all want a margarita the minute we hit the beach. Cheers to you, Jim!
