It was an unsolved crime that swept the nation, when 6-year-old child beauty pageant queen JonBenét Ramsey was killed in her family’s home in Boulder, Colorado, in December 1996. Over 25 years later, there has still not been a killer convicted of this tragic homicide.
This video from 60 Minutes Australia takes you through the new breakthrough DNA evidence that could be a deciding factor in determining who is responsible for the death of JonBenét Ramsey.
JonBenét’s father, John Ramsey, still holds out hope that even after all these years his daughter’s murderer will be captured and charged.
“We’ve lost a beautiful child and this is a creature that did this [who] is out there and could possibly do it to another child,” Ramsey explains. Even though he can’t bring his daughter back, he would still like answers as to why this brutal murder took place.
Ramsey thinks that there is a way to finally uncover who killed JonBenét, but he needs the cooperation of the police who have been investigating the case all these years to pull it off. Ramsey feels as though the authorities never properly investigated the murder but instead jumped to false conclusions that rapidly slowed things down.
“They solved it in their minds on the first day,” Ramsey explains of how the police sought to pin the crime on himself and his wife, Patsy Ramsey. “It was the parents and we just got to find the evidence to be able to prove that.”
Ramsey warrants that due to the small town life in remote locales like Boulder, Colorado, the detectives who were put on the case weren’t properly equipped to handle a crime like this homicide.
