Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise’s 20-year-old daughter, Suri, has scored an exciting role and will reportedly perform in Scotland in August. According to a new report from Page Six, Suri has a role in a Shakespeare-inspired production at her university, where she is said to study musical theater.
The play, called “Midsummer!,” is a modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Carnegie Mellon University describes it as “bursting with magic, mischief and queer transformative joy,” and warns that it’s “not your mother’s midsummer.”
In August, it will premiere at the 2026 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Daily performances are scheduled from August 6 to August 19, Page Six reported. It’s unclear what role Suri has in the production, but it sounds like an exciting opportunity for her and everyone else involved.
It’s not her first time performing in a school production, as she made headlines for her incredible performance as Morticia Addams in “The Addams Family: A New Musical” when she was in high school. She also had a role in “Cosmic Microwave Background” at Pittsburgh’s New Hazlett Theater in March, according to the publication.
Previously, it was reported that she had been considering studying fashion. Now, in a way, it seems like she might be following in her parents’ footsteps after all.
However, Suri does not have a relationship with her dad.
Tom has seemingly been estranged from Suri for many years now. Katie and Tom got divorced in 2012. That year was the last time Tom was spotted out in public with their daughter. In the years that followed, multiple reports suggested that he had not maintained a relationship with Suri.
Recently, reports emerged saying Suri had officially dropped her dad’s last name. It’s unclear exactly when that happened, but Page Six reported that Suri registered to vote in Pennsylvania under the name Suri Noelle (rather than Suri Cruise) in 2024.
Apparently, Tom didn’t really react to the name change because he hasn’t been involved in Suri’s life. “He’s not angry, he’s not making phone calls, and he’s certainly isn’t trying to change her mind,” a source told commentator Rob Shuter. “As far as Tom is concerned, this chapter of his life ended years ago.”
The last name Suri chose for herself is also her mom’s middle name.
Katie, whose full name is Katie Noelle Holmes, has tried her best to protect her daughter and keep her out of the spotlight as she was growing up. Because of this, she doesn’t say much about Suri publicly.
“What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her,” Katie told Glamour in 2023. “I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She’s an incredible person.”
She also made a rare comment about their relationship before Suri moved away for college. “I’m proud of my daughter,” she said to Town & Country in 2024. “Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy.”
