Kelly Ripa Says Stylists From ‘All My Children’ Body Shamed Her 9 Days After Giving Birth

Kelly Ripa has had her share of body-shaming experiences, and on the recent episode of her podcast Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa, the 53-year-old talk show host talked with her guest Hilarie Burton Morgan about an experience she had on the set of All My Children that hadn't been shared with the public. The soap opera is what started her acting career in 1990, and also led her to her husband Mark Consuelos. After having their first child in 1997, she returned to the show and shared that she was body shamed by stylists nine days after giving birth.

Kelly went on to share that she had gained 68 pounds during her pregnancy with Michael, their first child. "“I didn’t recognize my body," she said, adding that it was brutal to go back to work so soon after giving birth.

"The wardrobe people were like, 'We thought you’d be smaller by now.' And I was like, 'Well, I’m not going to be smaller anytime soon,'" she said. "I don’t know much, but here’s what I do know: this looks like it’s going to be here for a while."

Since her character on the show wasn't pregnant, the producers went to great lengths to conceal Kelly's weight gain. “Initially, I would carry luggage with me everywhere,” she previously shared in an interview with People. “Then I started to carry guitar cases. Then I carried trees. Trees!”
