Kelsey Grammer’s ex-wife, Camille Grammer, has spoken about how hard their 2011 divorce was. She previously revealed that she hasn’t spoken to Kelsey in 14 years at this point, but they do share two adult children: Mason, 25, and Jude, 22. In the past, Camille hesitated to say that she and Kelsey maintained a co-parenting relationship; in reality, it’s more like a “parallel parenting” relationship.
What that entails isn’t super clear, but Camille’s recent post about Mason’s birthday suggests she’s growing increasingly frustrated with the dynamic. Mason recently celebrated her 25th birthday, but according to Camille, she didn’t hear from her father at all. “Sometimes the silence is deafening, and the disappointment speaks volumes,” Camille wrote in part after days had gone by with no birthday message from Kelsey.
Camille shared a heartfelt post dedicated to Mason on her birthday.
“Happy 25th Birthday to my beautiful Mason! ❤️ You are funny, self-deprecating, smart, and so incredibly loyal to your friends and family,” she wrote in the message to her daughter. She also noted that her daughter has “shown such resilience and strength” through various difficult periods in life.
“You kept going, pursued your education, and graduated from college,” Camille added. “I hope you know how proud I am of you and the person you’ve become. You have brought me more joy than words can ever express. I love you more than you’ll ever know.”
Days later, she publicly called her ex-husband out.
Apparently, Kelsey did not reach out to Mason to wish her a happy birthday. Camille made sure all of her followers knew about it. Although she didn’t name names in her post, it’s obvious that she was talking about Kelsey. Camille even included a photo of Kelsey holding Mason when she was a baby in the post, although she did obscure his face with a clown graphic.
“A daughter should never have to wonder whether her father remembers her birthday,” Camille wrote on Instagram. “Three days later, and still not a call or a text.”
She continued, “You can be a beloved actor to the world, but being a father is a role that requires showing up when the cameras are off. Fame, accolades, and public admiration mean very little if you neglect the people who should matter most.”
She said Mason kept checking her phone for messages from her father.
And after some time had passed and she still hadn’t heard from him at all, she reportedly even checked her spam folder. “Mason told me she kept checking her phone all weekend, hoping her father had called, even from an unfamiliar number or that his message had somehow ended up in her spam folder,” Camille added in the same post. “She even checked there, searching for any sign that he had reached out.”
Camille made it sound like seeing how Kelsey’s alleged silence affected their daughter is what really bothered her. “A mother never stops hurting when her child is hurt,” she noted, also pointing out that “25 is a milestone birthday.”
In a follow-up comment on her own post, Camille shed light on what Mason’s relationship with her father is like. According to Camille, Mason “has felt increasingly excluded from her father’s life and home.” She suggested that Mason’s stepmom, Kayte Walsh, has played a role in this.
Regardless of the reason for their allegedly strained relationship, the silence on her birthday only made things worse. “A 25th birthday should be a celebration of love, not another reminder of the distance between a father and his child,” Camille asserted.
