ABBA Guitarist Lasse Wellander Dies From Cancer At Age 70

Lasse Wellander, the guitarist for Swedish pop group ABBA, died of cancer early on April 7, 2023. His family and the pop band confirmed this to the media. Wellander was said to have just recently fallen ill.

Wellander recorded and toured with ABBA for nearly 50 years. He also released seven solo albums of his own.

A statement was posted to the guitarist's Facebook page. “It is with indescribable sadness that we have to announce that our beloved Lasse has fallen asleep,” it read.

"You were an amazing musician and humble as few, but above all you were a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather. Kind, safe, caring and loving… and so much more, that cannot be described in words. A hub in our lives, and it's unbelievable that we now have to live on without you."
