When Peter’s wife and son died in consecutive years, he decided to move to a small woodland town to try to heal peacefully surrounded by nature.
Peter’s son had a passion for climbing and came to his death one day during a dangerous climb. His wife was so devastated by the loss that she died the next year due to being deeply depressed.
After the deaths of his son and wife, Peter moved to a small town in Iowa and came across an abandoned dog during one of his meditative walks. He immediately connected with the animal and decided to take him in and call him Buddy. Buddy would often join Peter on hikes through the nature trails around their area.
During one of their walks, Peter noticed Buddy’s ears stand up as he led them in a specific direction. As they made their way, Peter started to make out a small figure sitting in front of a nearby tree. It was a little girl completely alone and trembling from being out in the cold.
Peter wasn’t exactly sure what to do, but he knew he needed to bring the child back to his house to warm up. After he got her a blanket and some hot soup, the girl told Peter that her name was Daisy. She said that her mother routinely left her at home alone and she sometimes got bored and went out to explore. This time, it got dark quickly and very cold.

Peter allowed Daisy to sleep on his couch and the next day they went off in search of her house and mother. When they came across the young girl’s home, Peter knocked on the door but nobody answered.
