An Oregon Man Narrowly Escapes A Loose Saw Blade From Nearby Construction Site

Shane Reimche was just trying to make a quick pit stop at the liquor store on March 24, 2024. Instead, he had a life-threatening experience. A massive saw blade got loose from a nearby construction site and almost impaled him.

He missed it by seconds when entering Quicktrips Neighborhood Market in Eugene, Oregon. The blade instead struck the building and became embedded in it. Shane is thankful to be alive.

Shane opened up about his near-death experience to KEZI 9. Shane knew something was up because he “heard a loud bang and yelling just as a cloud of smoke pops up and I see a guy fall in the ditch.” He went on to say that he saw “a 4-foot blade hurtling at me” but he was “able to duck behind the counter” just in time.

The owner of Quicktrips was also impacted by this event. “All I heard was a metal rolling down from the street, and I looked at the camera. It was just wind, and all of the sudden we heard a loud bang,” he recalled. The impact of the blade “shook literally the whole store.” It took three men to remove it as it was wedged 2 feet into the building.

After seeing the incident, which was caught on video, Shane’s kids made sure to check on him. Everyone was shaken up. “Oh my God, I had tears all night. It was petrifying. I was shaking in the store,” Shane confessed.

Right after the incident he stated: “I don’t think I would’ve survived being touched by that thing. I need a beer. I'm still shaken. It's 9 o'clock. I'm not going to work today.”

The blade came from a site where utility company Northwest Natural Gas was working to fix a leaky valve. The incident involved a contractor and is currently under investigation. The contractor has been removed from the site for now.
