Unhoused Man Leaves Job Interview To Rescue Baby Right Before Stroller Rolls Into Traffic

Being a caretaker of a young child is very rewarding but oh so demanding. You have to juggle so many things mentally and physically. If you miss one tiny step, disaster might ensue. This was the case in Hesperia, California, but fortunately, Ron Nessman was there to prevent a tragedy.

A woman who was taking care of her great-nephew was loading things into her car in a car wash parking lot. She forgot to lock the stroller’s brakes, and a gust of wind pushed the stroller toward busy traffic. The woman fell when trying to stop the stroller. Ron saved the day by sprinting to stop it.

Ron’s actions were caught on video surveillance cameras and have captured the attention of the world. Ron spoke to KOVR-TV about the incident.

“I didn’t even have time to think about it. You just react,” he stated humbly.

Ron was sitting on a bench when the incident occurred, having just finished a job interview at Applebee’s. He had gone through a rough patch in life, with the death of his girlfriend leading him to be unhoused for eight years, and was looking to get back on his feet. He moved in with his sister. He had previously worked as a big-rig truck driver.

“I felt so bad for the lady. I got nephews and nieces. I can imagine something like that. I wouldn’t have been able to live with myself if I did nothing, of course. I’m just glad I realized it and was on it,” Ron recalled.

Beyond Ron saving the young boy, this story has an even happier ending. Applebee’s hired him. He has also received many other offers of employment with his newfound fame.

“I’ll earn everything I get so – with that in mind, you know – I appreciate the opportunity that Applebee’s has given me,” Ron promised. “It’s really cool.”
