It’s important to celebrate the milestones in life. Wedding anniversaries fall into this category. Mariska Hargitay and Peter Hermann toasted to 19 years of marriage on August 28, 2023.
Mariska took to Instagram to mark the happy occasion. She posted a photo of the couple dancing on their wedding day. Both are simply radiating happiness that has seemed to follow them through the years.
“19 years. Best dance of my life. Only dance of my life,” Mariska captioned her photo. Mariska and Peter first met when Peter was a recurring guest star on Law & Order: SVU. Mariska was instantly attracted to him but the pair would not pursue anything until Peter’s character left the show.
Peter eventually asked Mariska out. Their first date was attending church together. Mariska just knew he was the one right away. “It was like getting hit with a lightning bolt," she recalled. "I just started sobbing. Peter thought I was crying because I was so moved by the service. No, it was because I was just overwhelmed, realizing he was the one."

Peter and Mariska do not claim to have everything figured out but work hard to maintain their relationship through life's ups and downs. "There is no secret,” Mariska mused. “We’re all just working through it — whether it’s a relationship that exists in the public eye to some degree or doesn't.”
"Our son plays basketball and his coach says, 'Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals,' and I think when it comes to relationships, the fundamentals, in the end, are not that complicated,” Peter added. “That doesn't mean that they’re easy, but they’re not that complicated. It's fundamentals — kindness, listen well, and fight fair."
