Marjorie Taylor Greene Urges People To ‘Take Off Their Political Blinders’ After ICE Shooting

After hearing what the Trump administration has tried to say about the fatal shooting of protester Alex Pretti, Marjorie Taylor Greene is trying to get through to MAGA supporters. In a lengthy message, Greene urged President Donald Trump’s supporters to consider how they’d feel if something similar happened to a “MAGA guy” under the Biden administration. Would they really be OK with it?

On Saturday, January 24, federal agents shot and killed Pretti, a 37-year-old Minneapolis resident and nurse. After the shooting, Trump administration officials defended the federal agents and framed Pretti as a domestic terrorist with a gun. Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller called Pretti “a would-be assassin” who “tried to murder federal law enforcement.” President Donald Trump said “he shouldn’t have been carrying a gun.” Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said, “I don’t know of any peaceful protester that shows up with a gun and ammunition rather than a sign.”

Meanwhile, Greene made it clear that she supports the Second Amendment.

Trump administration officials have been criticized for focusing on Pretti’s gun. Pretti had a concealed carry permit. In her X post directed at supporters of the MAGA movement, Greene wrote that she “unapologetically” supports the Second Amendment. “Legally carrying a firearm is not the same as brandishing a firearm,” she said. “I support American’s 1st and 4th amendment rights. There is nothing wrong with legally peacefully protesting and videoing.”

She tried to explain it in a different way — by relating it to MAGA supporters storming the Capitol on January 6.

Addressing Trump supporters directly, Greene continued, “MAGA, consider it like this. We lost our minds when we watched Biden’s FBI track down and aggressively carry out home invasions and arrest on peaceful J6’ers who walked in the Capitol through open doors.”

She continued, “Imaging if one of our MAGA independent journalists or even just a MAGA supporter stood in the street outside a J6’ers house while Biden’s FBI carried out a law enforcement operation, home invasion, and arrest. Then Biden’s FBI goes to the MAGA guy videoing it all and shoves a woman with him to the ground and sprays them with bear spray then throws the MAGA guy to the ground as MAGA guy was trying to help the woman off the ground. Then Biden’s FBI beats MAGA guy on the ground, disarms MAGA guy, and then shoots him dead.”

She added, “What would have been our reaction? Both sides need to take off their political blinders.” Greene concluded her post with a warning: “You are all being incited into civil war, yet none of it solves any of the real problems that we all face, and tragically people are dying,” she stated.

Obviously, Greene is no longer the vocal Trump supporter she once was.

When she started breaking from Trump on multiple issues, people started thinking she had changed. But Greene has made it clear that her stances haven’t really changed. However, she has not hesitated to share her opinions on how Trump and the MAGA movement have changed. During a December 2025 interview, she said, “I feel very sorry for President Trump. I genuinely do. It has to be a hard place for someone that is constantly so hateful and puts so much vitriol, name-calling and really tells lies about people in order to try to get his way or win some kind of fight.”
