Fellow Avenger Mark Ruffalo Asks Fans To Assemble By Praying For Jeremy Renner’s Recovery

Even superheroes get injured, it appears. On New Year's Day, actor Jeremy Renner, best known for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Universe, got into a serious snowplow accident and was critically injured.

Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy’s costar and friend, took to Instagram to ask fans to pray for his buddy’s recovery.

“Prayers up for our brother @jeremyrenner on a full and speedy recovery," Mark wrote along with an image of the news in his Instagram stories. The pair clearly bonded while filming the popular Avenger movies. “Please send healing goodness his way,” Mark concluded.

Local authorities issued a statement about the incident: "At approximately 9:00 am on January 1, 2023, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office responded to a traumatic injury in the area of Mt. Rose Highway in Reno, Nevada. Upon arrival, Deputies coordinated with Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and REMSA Health to arrange for medical transport of Mr. Jeremy Renner via care flight to a local area hospital.”

People magazine is reporting that Jeremy’s injuries were “extensive.” An official statement from Jeremy’s reps categorize his condition as “critical but stable.” Jeremy was the only person involved in the accident, but the investigation is still ongoing.

On Monday, January 2, 2023, Jeremy underwent surgery for these injuries. “We can confirm that Jeremy has suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries and has undergone surgery today, Jan. 2, 2023. He has returned from surgery and remains in the intensive care unit in critical but stable condition,” a representative for the actor said in a statement to People.

The statement also expressed his family’s thankfulness for his medical team and first responders: “Jeremy's family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City Mayor Hillary Schieve and the Carano and Murdock families. They are also tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans.”

Jeremy’s family is surrounding him during this difficult time. A representative for the actor confirmed "his family is with him and he is receiving excellent care." Jeremy may have gotten injured while attempting to help a stranded car.

The Reno Gazette Journal is reporting that Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve said Jeremy was using his personal snowplow to help out when the accident occurred. “He was helping someone stranded in the snow. He is always helping others,” she stated.

She added that Jeremy often helps the community and asks for nothing in return. “He’s always calling and saying, ‘Hey Mayor, what do you need?’ There are a few times he’ll post about what he has done or donated toys, but most of it you would never know he is doing,” she said.

Jeremy has a 9-year-old daughter, Ava Berlin, whom he shares with ex-wife Sonni Pacheco. Having a child changed Jeremy’s priorities.

“It taught me how to have the nuts to say, ‘Everyone, [expletive] off. It’s my time with my daughter,’” he said in an interview with Men’s Health.

Jeremy was even willing to give up his role as Hawkeye for Ava. “I said, ‘Fine, recast me. I’m going to be here with my daughter.’ It was pretty gnarly,” he explained of the conflict.

Everything worked out, and Jeremy was able to be present for his daughter and continue in the role. He still puts his daughter first. “Acting and everything else goes out the window until my daughter says, ‘I want to hang out with my friends, and I don’t want to be around you so much, Daddy,’” he concluded.
