Reality TV Contestants Allege They Were Raped By Husbands: ‘I Just Completely Froze With Fear’

Married at First Sight U.K. brides are alleging they were raped by their husbands during filming the reality series, the BBC reports. According to the report, two women are making the claims while a third woman said she experienced a non-consensual sex act.

In a public statement released following the report, Channel 4, which broadcasts the reality series and has pulled previous seasons since the allegations, revealed an external review in April into welfare concerns on the program “after being presented with serious allegations of wrongdoing against a small number of past contributors, allegations that we understand those contributors have denied.”

“The channel is mindful of the privacy and continuing duty of care towards all contributors, and cannot comment on or disclose details of those allegations,” the statement added.

According to the BBC, one woman alleged that her husband raped her and threatened her with acid.

“I just completely froze with fear and I never, ever thought anything could scare me that much,” the woman, who has not been identified, said and is threatening legal action.

According to the BBC, each of the women eventually raised their allegations with CPL, the independent production company behind the show. CPL, per the report, said it followed appropriate welfare protocols in every case. The women, however, claimed to the BBC that they were not protected by the show.

Married at First Sight U.K. is a reality series where relationship experts match single people who meet for the very first time at the altar.
