When Miss USA announced that Brittany Boltinhouse had been stripped of her Miss North Carolina USA, some people assumed the decision was made because of old social media posts featuring racial slurs. Meanwhile, Brittany believes she has been targeted due to her beliefs. The lawyer she has hired to represent her claims that she’s a victim of “cancel culture.”
On June 28, Brittany was crowned Miss North Carolina USA. Weeks later, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA’s CEO and chairman Thom Brodeur announced that the title no longer belongs to her. The exact reason she was stripped of the title remains unclear, though Thom mentioned racism, homophobia, and transphobia in his general statement about the situation and the organization’s values.
Thom did not mention a specific incident that led to this decision.
Instead, he wrote, “What was brought to us was not a single moment. It reflected conduct over an extended period of time.” He also alluded to what the issue might’ve been without getting into specific details about it.
“The Miss USA organization does not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia nor language that strips any person of their dignity — whoever they are,” the statement read in part. He also added that Brittany is still “a human being with a family, a future, and a life ahead of her that is longer than this part of her journey,” noting that he doesn’t believe that “accountability requires cruelty.”
Some old social media posts have resurfaced amid the controversy.
North Carolina news outlet NCBeat shared screenshots of social media posts from 2017 to 2019. The posts, which came from an account linked to Brittany, allegedly showed her using the N-word multiple times.
Brittany has said that she believes she lost her title due to her beliefs. Just Jared reported that she appears to support President Donald Trump.
During a Carolina Journal interview, Brittany was asked about whether she thinks supporting Trump might have been a factor in this decision. She said, “I don’t know. All I can say from the information that I have today and what I believe and I think is honestly I don’t know. I wasn’t really given anything. All I can say is that I think and believe that my title was ripped from me because of my beliefs.”
She also elaborated on her beliefs, saying, “I’m a proud conservative woman, but a Christian woman. I’m a God-fearing woman.”
Now, a lawyer’s also involved.
An attorney named Patrick Mincey appeared in a video shared to Brittany’s Instagram on August 10. In the video, he said he was representing Brittany because of “the wrongful and unjustified stripping of the Miss North Carolina USA 2026 title,” which he blamed on “cancel culture.”
According to him, the situation will be investigated to determine whether Brittany was stripped of her title due to her “Christian faith and her conservative political views.”
He clearly believes this to be the case, as he described focusing on “uncovering and presenting the full truth behind what appears to be another troubling example of cancel culture directed at a young woman because of her deeply held religious convictions and publicly expressed political beliefs.”
