Miss USA Noelia Voigt Is Unexpectedly Giving Up Her Crown After Just 8 Months

On May 6, 2024 Miss USA Noelia Voigt announced that she is stepping down and handing in her crown. She wants to focus instead on her mental health. Her announcement seems appropriately timed as May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

Noelia was eight months into her reign. Typically the runner-up would take over. In this case, that is Miss Hawaii Savannah Gankiewicz. At this time, no formal announcement has been made confirming this.

"In life, I strongly value the importance of making decisions that feel best for you and your mental health," Noelia began her statement. "As individuals, we grow through experiencing different things in life that lead us to learning more about ourselves." This was not an easy decision for her to make, but she believes it is the right one.

Noelia also expressed her gratitude to everyone who has supported her on her pageant journey. She wants people to continue to pursue their dreams and "to remain steadfast, prioritize your mental health, advocate for yourself and others by using your voice, and never be afraid of what the future holds, even if it feels uncertain."

The Miss USA Organization applauded Noelia’s hard decision. "The well-being of our titleholders is a top priority, and we understand her need to prioritize herself at this time," the group expressed in a statement to TVLine. "The organization is currently reviewing plans for the transition of responsibilities to a successor and an announcement regarding the crowning of the new Miss USA will be coming soon."

Former Miss USA Shanna Moakler also spoke out and offered her support and well wishes. "Noelia, all I can say is that I love you,” she gushed. “I am so proud of the young woman that you are. I'm so honored that I was able to be a part of your journey. I know this decision wasn't easy for you, but I know you know I will always support you, be there for you.”
