Woman Arrested For Alleged Murder Of Roommate Tries To Wash Off Evidence With Mountain Dew

Desperate times call for desperate measures. After being arrested in connection with the murder of her roommate, one Florida woman used Diet Mountain Dew to wash blood off her body, according to authorities. She did so after being told she was going to be DNA tested.

On July 2, 2023, Nichole Maks, 35, was taken in for questioning in connection with the murder of Michael Cerasoli, 79. His body was discovered in a house fire the day before. When she was found, police say Maks' leg was bloody and she was holding a knife and hammer. Her story did not add up, so police wanted to investigate further. That’s when the Mountain Dew clean up attempt allegedly occurred.

On July 1, 2023, authorities responded to a house fire in Daytona Beach. In the process of that investigation, a police officer made a gruesome discovery. Cerasoli’s body appeared to have stab wounds and was in the same room as two cellphones and a bloody knife.

Maks was found in Holly Hill, Florida. She could not give a straight answer about where she lived. Police were suspicious and continued their investigation and questioning.

Maks asked for a drink. She was given a Diet Mountain Dew. Police believe she intentionally spilled it on herself so she could clean up the blood on her leg.

This only temporarily delayed authorities. They would go on to DNA test the bloody knife that was left at the scene. They allegedly found Cerasoli’s blood on the blade. Maks' blood was found on the handle.

On August 5, Maks was booked into Volusia County Jail. She faces charges of first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, and resisting arrest with violence. She is being held without bond.
