Disney is working on a new residential community — and it won't be in Florida or California. Storyliving by Disney will be making its way to North Carolina soon! The project is intended to "cater to those looking to write [the] next chapter of their lives with Disney," the latest announcement explained.
The first Storyliving community is to be developed in California. This second one, named Asteria, will be located near Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. A press release noted that the community is "inspired by the spirit of discovery."
The press release also noted that Asteria will be “designed to encourage exploration of the region’s natural beauty and spark life-long learning.” Homes within the community are expected to go on sale by 2027, and could be upwards millions of dollars.
Cotino, the community that will be located in Rancho Mirage in California's Coachella Valley, was first announced in February 2022. Walt Disney actually owned a home in the area himself, which makes plans for that community extra special.

“The announcement of the Asteria community builds upon strong initial interest for our first Storyliving by Disney community in California and will expand Disney-branded communities to the East Coast,” Claire Bilby, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Signature Experiences Emerging Businesses, said. “Our team has been working closely with Disney Imagineers to develop a unique vision for this project inspired by Walt Disney’s innate curiosity and North Carolina’s spirit of discovery.”
Asteria will be built on 1,500 acres in Pittsboro, which is in Chatham County. The company believes this town will give residents metropolitan amenities while still having the feel of a small town.
The town will also have a lot of parks and trails for walking and biking. The development will be part of a larger community called Chatham Park.
The community will include both single-family and multi-family homes. Some sites will specifically be for people 55 and older. Other perks residents can enjoy are a wellness and recreation center, restaurants, sport courts, swimming pools, a community garden and outdoor space for lawn games, events, and fire pits.
"For nearly 100 years, Disney has shared stories that have touched the hearts and minds of people all around the world," Josh D'Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, said last year when Cotino was announced.
"As we prepare to enter our second century, we are developing new and exciting ways to bring the magic of Disney to people wherever they are, expanding storytelling to Storyliving," he continued. "We can't wait to welcome residents to these beautiful and unique Disney communities where they can live their lives to the fullest."
