Patrick Dempsey has been named People magazine's 2023 Sexiest Man Alive. From his role on Grey's Anatomy as neurosurgeon Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd, man fans have swooned over him and believe the status is well-deserved.
And to follow suit, the 57-year-old actor is ecstatic about taking home this newly announced title. “I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life,” he shared for this week's People cover story. “It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive.”
When he first heard the news, he didn't believe it. "I was completely shocked, and then I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right? I’ve always been the bridesmaid!” he laughed.
“I’d completely forgotten about it and never even contemplated being in this position. So my ego is good.” But he believes his kids, whom he shares with wife Jillian, are going to poke fun and "pick on me and figure out every reason why I shouldn’t be," he said, adding, "Which is good, they keep me young.”
