After longtime celebrity blogger Perez Hilton was seen on a TikTok livestream harming himself and covered in blood, users who watched it live were instantly concerned. They were even more worried when the stream continued, without being flagged or removed, for as long as it did. Now, there are questions about how much TikTok is actually moderating livestreams from users, regardless of their standing as creators or amount of followers on the platform.
A graphic video that has gone viral despite its disturbing nature shows what appears to be Perez, holding a sharp object, and covered in what many assume to be his own blood. Eventually, the stream ended and local authorities arrived at his Miami home, according to USA Today.

In the now-viral video from the livestream that many claim to be from Perez’s account on TikTok, he is covered in what many assume to be his own blood. He says at one point, “I did this for my children.” Then, after looking outside, where police cruisers are parked with the lights on, he says, “Shoot me motherf–kers. The police are here.”
There are comments on the stream from users watching who beg Perez to “please stop.” At the time of the livestream, others recorded bits of the video and then uploaded it, asking people to call for help for Perez, who appeared to be home alone at the time of the livestream. USA Today reported that the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office shared Perez was “safely recovered and transported” to a hospital following the livestream incident.
Some don’t understand why the stream remained up and running for so long before it was taken down.

Although perez did not die by suicide during the livestream, the fact that the stream got so far without interference from those on the backend of TikTok was cause for concern for many. In an instance like this, you might expect TikTok to properly flag the video after so many complaints and concerns flooded in from other users.
A user on Reddit wrote in a thread about TikTok and Perez’s long and dangerous livestream, “It should absolutely not have been allowed to be up for 30 minutes. I am fine with horror/gore, have seen a lot [of] real and fake, and this was so deeply disturbing I could not get the image out of my head all night. If I felt a bit traumatized by it as an adult I cannot imagine how this could affect a child. And I only saw it because I clicked on the trend and the video auto played, I was not looking for it.”
“Apparently people were reporting like mad when it was going on and TikTok did s–t all,” another person wrote. “FOR THIRTY WHOLE ASS MINS.”
According to the recordings of the video floating around on social media, Perez’s livestream remained up for at least 15 minutes. Some users report he was live for around 30 minutes, but TikTok has denied that to be the case.
A spokesperson for TikTok reportedly told the Los Angeles Times that Perez’s streams that came directly after his initial one, which the spokesperson said was 15 minutes long, were stopped within 90 seconds of reports.

After the incident with the TikTok livestream happened, Perez’s family released a statement that was shared on the blogger’s website. In the statement, his family confirmed that Perez is getting help and “medical care” and that he and his family ask for privacy while they deal with the fallout of what happened.
“Many of you have reached out with concern for Perez, and we are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of love, support, and prayers,” the statement said. “We can confirm that Perez is receiving medical care, and our family’s focus right now is on his well-being. We kindly ask that you respect Perez’s privacy, as well as the privacy of his family, during this difficult time. If and when we are able to share any updates, we will do so with everyone as soon as we can. Thank you for your compassion, understanding, and continued support.”
