Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Asked NYC Public School To Sign Gag Order Ahead Of Visit

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle apparently had their aides ask a New York public school to sign a gag order in 2021 ahead of them visiting. A report noted that the order prohibited anyone at 123 Mahalia Jackson, the school in Harlem, from making negative comments about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex “now or in the future." The New York Department of Education received an appearance release three days ahead of the couple's visit, which was handled by a press officer of New York City public schools.

Sources close to the Archewell Foundation defended the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. They added that it is “standard practice” when minors are involved.

Their visit to New York's PS 123 in 2021 was to promote early literacy and encourage reading among young children. Meghan read from her picture book The Bench in the middle of the playground.

Harry was seen sitting cross-legged on the ground, among the students. He was heard telling one of the students, "It’s great to be back. We love New York.”

The couple was joined by New York City Schools Chancellor Meisha Porter. Before leaving, they donated two garden boxes with vegetables and herbs to the school.

At one point in the visit, Meghan was asked by one of the students if she planned on writing another book. "At the moment I don’t plan to write another children’s book," she replied. "But never say never.”

The pair posed with students and staff members in front of a mural that was painted by fourth and fifth grade students. They were also seen exchanging hugs with some of the students.

The entire school appeared very excited to meet Harry and Meghan. “Being able to meet her was like a chance of a lifetime," James Reynolds, the art teacher, shared. "It was a secret from everyone.”

“We have been through a lot in the last 18 months," he continued. "I think they were just eternally grateful she stopped by. They were great folks.”
