One of Rebel Wilson’s first major roles was Fat Amy in the 2012 film Pitch Perfect. Since then, she has undergone a major lifestyle change that resulted in weight loss. This journey was both physical and mental.
In an interview with the Sunday Times published on March 31, 2024, Rebel admitted she used the Type 2 diabetes drug Ozempic. She used it to help her maintain her weight loss after shedding 80 pounds. It worked for her for a while, but she is no longer taking it.
“Someone like me could have a bottomless appetite for sweets, so I think those drugs can be good,” Rebel stated. Rebel also put in sweat equity to get to her goal weight. It was not always easy but it was worth it.
Many people didn’t want Rebel to lose weight because she was known as being the overweight funny girl. “Basically no one apart from my mom wanted me to lose weight,” Rebel explained. “People thought I’d lose my pigeonhole in my career, playing the fat funny character, and they wanted me to continue in that.”

Rebel didn’t listen and made 2020 her year of health. She was inspired to do so after consulting a fertility doctor who said she would have a better chance at motherhood if she lost weight. She started with long walks and a high protein diet, but worked her way up to two-and-a-half-hour workouts. In November 2022 her daughter, Royce Lillian Elizabeth Wilson, was born via surrogate.
