Richard Simmons was found unresponsive on his bedroom floor on July 13, 2024, the day after his 76th birthday. According to the fitness guru's autopsy report, he suffered "multiple abrasions and contusions on the body," reports Radar Online. On the evening before his birthday, Simmons experienced "an episode of dizziness" that caused him to collapse. He couldn't get up on his own and remained on the floor until his caretaker found him, according to the autopsy report.
After finding Simmons, his caregiver and housekeeper helped him get into bed. Per the autopsy report shared by Radar Online, it's unclear whether Simmons hit his head when he fell. He didn't want to seek medical treatment that night or the following day because he wanted to spend his birthday at home. Instead, he planned to get medical treatment the day after his birthday, July 13.
Simmons spent his birthday in bed and was found unresponsive the next morning. Per the autopsy report, Simmons died due to the injuries from his fall. "Arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease" was also listed as a contributing factor. "There are multiple abrasions and contusions on the body," the report from the Los Angeles Medical Examiner read, per Radar Online.

At the time of his death, cuts and bruises covered his body. The LA Coroner's office determined that Simmons' death was an accident, Richard Simmons' brother Lenny Simmons told People.
Simmons' toxicology report revealed that he didn't have any drugs in his system other than medication he had been prescribed, which "do not appear to have contributed to the cause of death," per Radar Online.
Simmons' housekeeper, Teresa Reveles, lived with him for 35 years. In an interview with People, she recalled speaking to him on his birthday. Simmons told her that his legs "hurt a lot." She remembered saying, "Let’s go to the hospital. Maybe you broke your leg."
But he wanted to wait, she told the publication. "No, Teresa. Not on my birthday. Why we don't wait and we do it in the morning," she recalled Simmons saying the day before his death.
During the interview, she started crying. "I can’t stop crying. I still can’t believe what happened," she told People. However, she continued with the interview, sharing more stories about Simmons because she wanted to "celebrate Richard."
"He died happy," she told the publication.
