In a recent video, Robert Irwin went around the Australia Zoo harvesting food for his lunch. When watching the video, many fans were reminded of the 21-year-old Australian conservationist’s late father, Steve Irwin. Robert mentioned his dad during the video because he remembered how his father used to take him and his sister around his zoo on his motorbike.
At one point during the video, Robert got on a motorbike. He explained that the motorbike is special to him because it reminds him of his dad. “It’s also very nostalgic, this bike,” Robert explained. “Dad used to take my sister and I around the zoo. He used to go around, and we’d pick fruit and macadamia nuts. As a kid, I used to sneak down here to the sugar cane, just absolutely go to town.”
Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray in 2006, when Robert was just 2 years old. Robert’s older sister, Bindi, was 8 years old at the time of Steve’s death.
Fans who watched the video noticed that Robert Irwin looks a lot like his late father now that he’s getting older.
“The more you grow up, the more we see your Dad ♥️,” one person commented on the video.
Noticing the striking resemblance between Robert and his late father, another fan wrote, “POA — we did not, in fact, lose Steve Irwin …. here he is ^^^.”
A third fan commented: “idk how u like being compared to ur dad. But 😭 when you swung down that tree. I could literally see Steve. Ur father changed a lot of lives.”
One fan noticed how Robert is “truly living for his dads legacy.”

The viral video has amassed 4.6 million views. However, it’s not the first time Robert shared a childhood memory related to his dad’s motorbike. On February 23, 2025, Robert shared his earliest memory of his dad while on The Project, per People.
At the time, he also spoke about how his dad would take him and his sister around the zoo on his motorbike. “Every morning, it didn’t matter rain, hail or shine, he’d load up Bindi and I on the front of his motorbike and we’d go rip around the Zoo and get ice cream,” he said. “So I just remember being on the front of the motorbike covered in ice cream just loving life.”
Previously, Robert opened up about how losing his dad at such a young age has impacted him.
“When you lose someone, a father figure, at such a young age, who is such a commanding presence of positivity and everything that is good in the world, of course all I want is for him to be here for me; to go, ‘What do you think about this, what do you think about that?” he told The Australian Women’s Weekly. “There are so many things I wish I could ask him on so many levels.”
