What to Know
An influencer is facing significant backlash online due to her involvement in a recent Netflix doc about a car crash that killed two passengers. In 2022, Mackenzie Shirilla was driving and quickly accelerated, crashing into a building and killing her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and his friend Davion Flanagan. She survived the crash and was charged with murder. During her trial, the judge ruled that the crash was intentional.
She remains in prison and was interviewed for the Netflix doc, called The Crash. Rosie Graham, a popular fitness influencer, also shared her perspective in the documentary—and people are not happy about it.
People think Rosie’s involvement is “suspicious” and they have accused her of being biased.
Refusing to talk to the police but happily sitting down for a full Netflix interview is beyond suspicious. If you really wanted justice, you’d cooperate with investigators before chasing cameras and publicity. #TheCrash #RosieGraham #MackenzieShirilla pic.twitter.com/dP3WAVAGxL

After seeing what Rosie said in the doc, one Redditor wrote, “She did not come off well. Why is she defending her so hard? Mackenzie got convicted and the evidence directly says she deliberately drove that car into a wall and killed two of her own friends.”
On X, people accused Rosie of making too many excuses, “lying her a– off,” and being biased. “You can clearly tell she only cares about Mackenzie,” someone wrote on the platform.
The backlash has been so intense that Rosie addressed it directly.

She decided to share a statement on her TikTok story to explain her involvement in the doc. “I know a lot of people have questions, so I just want to clear a few things up respectfully,” she wrote. “Prior to the trial, I did speak with the prosecution, answered every question I was asked, and made it clear that I was willing to testify and cooperate in any way needed.”
She also said her interview was edited, and she “had no control over” what was actually included in the doc. “My interview lasted over eight hours, and I had no control over what portions would ultimately make the final cut,” she explained. “At no point was my intention to pick sides, defend anyone, or make light of the seriousness of the case.”
She added, “I was simply answering the questions I was asked based on my own experiences, knowledge, and what I personally witnessed.”
Some people have speculated that Rosie agreed to be interviewed to boost her own following.
To some, Rosie’s involvement came across as a way of “chasing cameras and publicity.” But many have argued that if that was her intention, it seems to have backfired. She addressed these rumors in her statement as well.
“I also want to address the inclusion of my social media in the documentary,” she said. “I never wanted followers, views, or personal attention connected to such a serious situation, and I specifically expressed to the directors that I did not want that aspect included.”
Rosie went on to share screenshots of alleged text conversations between her boyfriend and producers. In a text message, her boyfriend allegedly asked producers to remove her social media information from the doc out of a desire to “keep that as separate as possible.”
