Rosie O’Donnell has officially left the United States. In a video shared on TikTok on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, Rosie told her followers that she’s living in Ireland now. She described the country as “beautiful” and said her experience has been “wonderful” so far. The comedian moved to Ireland in January and is trying to get her Irish citizenship because she has Irish grandparents.
The big move is not something that Rosie had ever imagined for herself. “Although I was never someone who thought I would move to another country, that’s what I decided would be the best for myself and my 12-year-old child. And here we are,” she said.

She went on to say that she and her 12-year-old, Clay, are happy. Though there are “many things” she misses about life in the US, including her other kids and her friends, she said “people [in Ireland] are so loving and so kind, so welcoming.”
Donald Trump’s presidency motivated Rosie’s relocation. She described what’s currently happening in the US as “heartbreaking.” However, her move might not be permanent, as she said she “will consider coming back” when “it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America.”
Speaking to her followers who are still located within the US, Rosie said, “I encourage everyone to stand up, to use their voice, to protest, to demand that we follow the constitution in our country.” Additionally, she urged everyone to “protect your sanity as much as you can.”
In the comments, fans told Rosie that she is “blessed” and “one of the lucky ones” because she left.
“Good for you Rosie!” one person commented on the video. “Don’t forget us that can’t leave!!!!!” In response, Rosie wrote that she “never could” forget them.

While many fans envied Rosie, they were also happy for her.
One wrote: “I’m happy for you and understand why you needed to go. I wish I could leave, too.” A second person commented, “I’m happy you found a welcoming safe place to live.”
However, one fan pointed out that Rosie’s move to Ireland felt “devastating.” “Now I’m 1000 % convinced we are doomed, if Rosie actually left,” the comment reads.
In the months leading up to the 2024 presidential election, Rosie used social media to speak out against Donald Trump and JD Vance. In a series of posts, Rosie pointed out that JD Vance was once very critical of the current president.
