Rosie O'Donnell, whose feud with Donald Trump started before he became president, is unsurprisingly not impressed by Trump's running mate, J.D. Vance. After news broke that Trump had selected Vance as his vice-presidential running mate, O'Donnell took to social media to share how she felt about it. The comedian, actor, TV personality, and activist shared several memes and posts about Vance to her Instagram Story, and also posted a reminder of comments Vance had previously made about Trump.
O'Donnell shared an image on Instagram that includes a list of negative things Vance has allegedly said about Trump in the past. One of the comments mentioned in the post came from a 2016 interview, in which Vance said he was "a 'Never Trump' guy."
“I never liked him," Vance said at the time.
Some of the other comments mentioned in the post came from tweets that have since been deleted by Vance.
In one of the tweets, Vance called Trump "reprehensible." In a private message sent to a friend in 2016, Vance suggested that Trump might be "America's Hitler," according to Politico.
"I go back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical a–hole like Nixon who wouldn’t be that bad (and might even prove useful) or that he’s America’s Hitler," he wrote in the message at the time, as per Politico. "How’s that for discouraging?"

In another post on Instagram, O'Donnell posted a somber selfie that appeared to capture her feelings about Trump's VP pick. She included a link in her post that referenced J.D. Vance but actually linked to a donation page for an organization dedicated to reproductive freedom. Some of the Instagram users who commented on the post wrote that they were "scared" and that Trump's VP pick was "terrifying."
O'Donnell also shared multiple posts that were originally shared by other accounts to her Instagram Story, including a post from EMILYs List, an organization dedicated to electing Democratic pro-choice women, that referred to Trump and Vance as the "anti-choice ticket."
One post she shared pointed out how Vance reportedly once said in a closed-door speech that conspiracy theorist Alex Jones' perspective of the world was "a hell of a lot more true than Rachel Maddow’s view of society."
Among the many Vance-related posts that O'Donnell shared to her Story were quotes from President Joe Biden, Senator Mitt Romney, and Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
The Mitt Romney quote reads, "I don’t know that I can disrespect someone more than J.D. Vance," and comes from a 2023 interview with The Atlantic.
The Sonia Sotomayor quote reads: "In the end, if it fails completely, it's because we destroyed our democracy on our own, isn't it?"
Some of the posts O'Donnell shared to her Instagram Story were more lighthearted, like a meme from the show Hacks. The meme included a picture of Deborah Vance, the show's main character portrayed by Jean Smart, and the text read, "The only Vance I support."
In addition to reacting to Trump's VP pick, O'Donnell also reacted to the assassination attempt on Trump on TikTok. In a video shared on the platform, O'Donnell called the assassination attempt "horrible" and said "I’m glad that he survived."
She also noted that she's been "nervous" for some time now about the direction that the country is heading in, and the assassination attempt "did nothing to quell my nerves."
"It did the opposite. And I’m glad it wasn’t worse. That’s all I can say," she said on TikTok.
In the same video, she also spoke about the need for gun reform in the United States. When it comes to shootings, she said, "We have to come together and say 'enough', you know?"
"These weapons of war, anyone can buy them, and then walk into a rally or a movie theater or a school or a mall or a church and just kill people. We have to stop this, America," she said.
