Sawyer Spielberg Is Following In His Famous Parents’ Footsteps: ‘I Got The Bug Right Away’

Sometimes the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Director Steven Spielberg and actress Kate Capshaw share six children. Thirty-one year old Sawyer Spielberg is following in their footsteps by pursuing a film and television career after studying theater in New York. He opened up about how his parents' artistry impacted him at the premiere of his latest project Apple TV +’s Masters of the Air.

Sawyer learned from his mom's example. She showed him what it means to work hard. Sawyer also often was present on his dad's movie sets. Steven and Sawyer share a love of military history.

Sawyer didn’t begin his career in film and television. “I started off in theater in California, at a small little theater in Venice Beach, and then I just got the bug right away,” he explained. “I think I was about 15, and I was lucky enough to have parents who made a living off doing it, and so that was inspiring. I went to drama school after high school and I wanted to study theater, and then I stayed in theater in New York for a while before transitioning over to film and TV.”

According to Sawyer, Kate was the perfect example of perseverance, an important quality to have when pursuing an artistic career. “She is an incredible actor and she's made an incredible career for herself and just watching her growing up, living by example, did the trick for me,” he gushed.
