Two Secret Service agents have been suspended after they were caught on camera fighting outside former President Barack Obama’s Washington, DC, home, the agency confirmed May 27.
The altercation occurred around 2:30 a.m. on May 21, but video clips of the fight began circulating on social media a few days later.
“The individuals involved were suspended from duty and this matter is the subject of an internal investigation,” the Secret Service said in a statement to The Hill. “The Secret Service has a very strict code of conduct for all employees and any behavior that violates that code is unacceptable.”
Audio from the scene captured one agent asking for a supervisor to report to the area “before I whoop this girl’s ass.” The involved agents were both women but have not been publicly identified further.
Obama’s office did not comment on the incident.
Secret Service protection continues for all former presidents after their terms expire. However, that same promise does not necessarily extend to family members. Earlier this year, President Donald Trump cut protection for Joe Biden’s son, Hunter.
The agency has faced greater scrutiny after a sniper shot Trump in July 2024 while he was campaigning outside Pittsburgh.
