A Spectator Decided To Take A Selfie At The Tour De France And Causes An Actual Crash

A selfie-taking fan caused a major crash at the 2023 Tour de France. When the spectator stuck their arm out to take a photo, they clipped the handlebars of cyclist Sepp Kuss. This action caused him to fall off his bike and crash, and other cyclists behind him crashed as well.

“There was a narrowing in the town and a spectator in the road, and I guess he just clipped my handlebars,” the American cyclist explained. “Luckily I’m OK and hopefully the other guys in the crash are all right. It’s not ideal."

The video shows the moment the incident unfolds. Because no one was hurt, the race continued.

After the 15th stage was over, some of the cycling teams took to Twitter requesting that spectators be more cautious.

"Please be always aware when watching cycling at the side of the road,” team Jumbo-Visma shared.

“If you are spectating at this amazing event, please give the riders room to race,” team INEOS Grenadiers tweeted.
