This video story posted by Wonderbot shares how a 65-year-old bus driver saved a bus full of children the day before his retirement and how he woke up the next day to a crowd of people outside his home.
Peter had been driving buses practically his entire adult life. He always loved driving the school-age children and appreciated their company, but his boss, Mr. Clark, thought that Peter was getting a little too old for this job and wanted him to retire.
One day, Mr. Clark called Peter into his office and told him that he didn’t have a choice, as due to his age and growing health concerns, Mr. Clark felt strongly like he couldn’t put the kids at risk, and it was officially time for Peter’s retirement. Even though Peter had a perfect driving record, he finally agreed and decided to retire that next week.
When he went home that night, Peter found himself feeling increasingly lonely. His wife had died years ago and his sons were now married and scattered around the country. His job and driving those kids every day and seeing their smiling faces had been something to help keep him going, and he wasn’t sure what he was going to do without it.

On his last day of work, Peter was driving the bus when he spotted a woman on the side of the road who had likely fainted. He pulled the bus over so he could go check on her.
As he made sure she was OK, he turned around and saw that the front part of his bus had caught on fire. Soon after, the fire traveled to the middle portion of the bus, but that didn’t stop Peter. He quickly covered himself in a jacket and pushed his way through so that he could retrieve all 28 children.
