Sometimes when it rains, it pours. Just ask Grammy award winning singer Amy Grant. The last three years have been rough for her. The 62-year-old has undergone open heart surgery, had a horrible bike accident, most recently, in January, a cyst was removed from her throat. One of these is enough to knock a person down, but all three? Yikes.
The cyst is especially scary for someone who makes their living using their voice. Thankfully all appears well. Amy appeared on The Today Show on Wednesday March 1, 2023, to give fans an update on her health.
"I feel fantastic," she said. "I mean, really from 2020 on, I feel like I had to … if I were a car, I've made a lotta trips to the shop. And I feel like I'm emerging. I went, 'Oh man, I feel like a classic now.' And actually sort of re-revved up in a really beautiful way."
In February 2021, Amy had open heart surgery. During a check-up, her doctor discovered a rare congenital heart condition that needed to be corrected. In July 2022, she was out for a bike ride and hit a pothole. The bike crash led to a two-day hospitalization and she had to cancel tour dates so she could recover.
Six months later, a cyst appeared. "[I was] working with a vocalist and she said, 'What is happening in your throat? Lean your head back.' And I said, 'I know. It's like I've got an Adam's apple that keeps getting bigger.' Unbeknownst to me, I'd had a thyroglossal duct cyst,” Amy explained.
Fans will be happy to know Amy is now in good health and ready to sing out again.
