Sofía Vergara has spoken up about her divorce, and the reason that she and Joe Manganiello split up is similar to what many suspected: she's not interested in having more kids.
Speaking to Spanish outlet El País, Sofía admitted that because of their age difference and different paths in life, she and Joe had different visions for the future. “My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids, and I didn’t want to be an old mom,” she explained to the outlet, also pointing out that her ex-husband is "younger" than she is.
Though she thinks it's fine for people to have kids when they're older if that's what they want to do, she also realizes that it's not what she wants. "I feel it’s not fair to the baby," she admitted.
Sofía is 51, while her ex-husband is 47.
Unlike her ex, Sofía is already a parent — so rather than aspiring to have another baby, she would prefer to be a grandmother at some point. Her son, Manolo, who she shares with her ex-husband Joe Gonzalez, is 32.

“I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother,” she said.
Sofía called it "the natural way of things." "I’m almost in menopause," she said.
As far as new relationships go, Sofía hopes that any man she's with will already have kids since she's not having more.
"When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while and then I’ll give it back to him and go on with my life; that’s what I have to do," she said.
In July 2023, Sofía and Joe shared news of their split via a joint statement. In the statement shared with Page Six, they said, “We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”
Sofía and Joe were married for seven years. Prior to their divorce announcement, some fans suspected that something was up because Sofía appeared to be traveling alone for her birthday, and Joe's birthday post dedicated to her felt off to some people. "¡¡¡Feliz Cumpleaños Sofía!!!" he wrote on Instagram, simply wishing her a happy birthday. Many felt that it was not enough — and sure enough, Sofía and Joe truly were planning on calling it quits.
It appears as though Joe has already moved on. He's currently dating actress Caitlin O'Connor, 34. In September 2023, a source told People that Joe was "casually" seeing Caitlin.
In December 2023, they made their relationship red carpet official when they attended the Children of Armenia Fund Gala together. Joe is reportedly open to getting married again and he “definitely wants kids," per Us Weekly.
