A Look Ahead: The Top Baby Boy Names For 2024

Naming a baby is kind of a big deal. Your moniker is how you show up in the world, after all. There's so much pressure on parents to get their babies' names just right.

For 2024 Laura Wattenberg, the creator of Namerology, has some predictions for baby boy names. "Modern cowboy names are a style that will be more popular," she mused. "Also look for breezy, one-syllable names, like Tate." The seven names on this list are sure to be popular options.

Sterling

One of the reasons cowboy names will be so popular is because of the hit series Yellowstone which tells the story of the Dutton family. Sterling is a name which will make you say yeehaw so it fits perfectly in the category. It reminds one of a shiny sheriff badge. The name literally means “little star” and its origins are Old English.

Riggs

Riggs fits into two categories. It is a western name and a surname as a first name, which is another popular trend. The surname Rigg literally means “lives near the ridge.” Another twist on this name is Briggs.

Judson

Judson is Hebrew in origin and means “son of Judah” or “son of Jordan.” Its ties to the Jordan River come from the Hebrew word Yarden, which means to go down or descend. The Jordan River has special spiritual significance as well because that is where Jesus was said to have been baptized by his cousin John. The name can remind kids of their parents' life journeys and the adventures to come. The nickname Judd is another draw. It has served Judd Apatow well.

Waylon

Famous country singer Waylon Jennings will be happy to know his name is growing in popularity. Waylon is a variation of Wayland, which means “land by the road” and is British in origin. In Old Norse Waylon means “courageous fighter.” So babies with this name may love to travel and be fearless, which are admirable qualities.

Cade

Now let’s explore some one-syllable names, such as Cade. This British name means round or barrel. Other variations of this include Caden and Cale, although Caden breaks the one-syllable rule. Perhaps Cades will be a barrel of laughs or excel at sports with round balls. The name has served athletes such as Cade Cunningham and Cade Horton well.

Jett

Jett not only has both British and French origins but also conjures up images of West Side Story. One of the gangs in the classic musicals were called the Jets with a singular t. The name literally means “black stone.” It is quickly gaining in popularity.

Tate

The last name on our list is Tate, which is of English origin. The name literally means cheerful. It is a great positive name to give to a baby. Emma Bunton aka “Baby Spice” of Spice Girls fame, gave her son the sunny name.
