Tori Spelling Sets Record Straight On Why She And Dean McDermott Slept In Separate Rooms

Tori Spelling is setting the record straight about why she and Dean McDermott slept in separate rooms three years before they split. After the 57-year-old Canadian actor claimed that the end of them sharing a marital bed was caused by pigs and other animals that Tori wanted to bring into their room, she gave her version of the story on her misSPELLING podcast.

According to the 50-year-old actress, the decision to sleep in different bedrooms for three years before they officially split was "his choice."

"Like, he gave an interview saying he stopped sleeping in the bed because of a pig. That is not true," she claimed. She went on to share that a pig did sleep in their bed for one day, but that was only when it was a baby and its previous caretakers said that it needed to be cuddled.

"I was just following orders that it was used to snuggling and it needed that for a few nights," she explained. "But then when it peed between us in the bed, he was like, 'The pig's leaving the bed.' And I was like, 'Understood.' And that was it. That was the only night the pig was in the bed."

Instead, she says what drove Dean away was her tendency to sleep with the TV on. According to her, their kids and animals had nothing to do with them deciding to sleep in separate rooms.

"I think I had the TV on for distraction, like, to distract from my life," Tori explained. "Like, I would just zone out and be entertained, which is what my dad [late producer Aaron Spelling] said that's what he always wanted to do."

"Like, people have hard days, hard work, hard lives, hard relationships, and it's all individual," she continued. "And when they get home, they just kinda wanna zone out and be entertained and taken out of their world, escapism. So that's what I was just creating for myself. Because guess what? It's funny. He's no longer in my bed. No longer in the marriage."

In late March 2024, it made headlines when Tori had filed for divorce from Dean after 18 years of marriage. She cited irreconcilable differences as the reason and also requested sole physical custody of their five minor children and joint legal custody, with Dean's visitation rights to be determined at a later date.

Tori also called her ex during one of her podcast episodes to let him know she had filed the divorce papers. He was supposedly concerned about the fact that she filed first. "I feel like I deserve to file first, then. You basically put it all out there with the Daily Mail," she told him, referencing his interview in November 2023.

"You said everything that you've done to me all through the years," she continued. "So I think it would make perfect sense that it's followed up with I would file. Because those are things that I would never have divulged to somebody and you did."
