Rapper Tory Lanez has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. He was found guilty on all three felony counts for shooting the "Hot Girl Summer" rapper in the feet.
On August 20, 2020, Megan Thee Stallion publicly named the Canadian rapper as the shooter, claiming that he shot her in the feet after a pool party at Kylie Jenner's house on July 12, 2020. She was then hospitalized and had to undergo a surgery to remove bullet fragments. She shared that she had to stay in the hospital for four days at the time.
At the beginning of the proceedings on Monday, Lanez had over 70 letters of support. One was from rapper Iggy Azalea, asking the judge for leniency "that was transformative, not life-destroying." She later wrote on Twitter, "I am not in support of throwing away anyone's life if we can give reasonable punishments that are rehabilitative instead. I support prison reform. Period."
Judge David Herriford allowed for attorneys on both sides to argue the factors of the rapper's potential sentence. Seven witnesses gave statements on Lanez's charitable contributions, his childhood trauma, and being a father to his 6-year-old son.

Lanez also spoke before the judge handed him the 10-year sentence. He asked for leniency and for a chance to "prove" himself.
"If I could turn back the series of events that night and change them, I would," he said. “The victim was my friend. The victim is someone I still care for to this day. Everything I did wrong that night, I take full responsibility for.”
