A travel influencer couple sadly died in a drowning incident that took place in June 2024. It was confirmed that the husband and wife both lost their lives in a Japanese river after she jumped in to save him. A family member shared the heartbreaking news of Tsubasa Ito and wife Teitei's deaths in a post on the husband's Instagram page.
"My older brother and his wife passed away in a drowning accident while climbing a gorge," Ito’s sister, Minami, wrote. "I hesitated about posting this on Instagram, but I have received many messages from people asking about their safety and offering my condolences, so I decided to write."

Ito was 41 and from Japan, while Teitei was 35 and from China. They were known as Agu on their social media platforms and had gained fame by documenting and sharing their alpine adventures. They'd just gotten married in February 2024.
According to the South China Morning Post, the couple was scaling a peak in Japan’s Gifu prefecture with an unidentified 48-year-old woman when Ito fell into the river, which had risen dramatically due to strong rainstorms from the day before.
It's reported that his wife threw a 300-foot-long rope to help him. When that didn't work, she jumped into the river to save him, but was swept away by the water.

The unidentified woman called the authorities, who discovered the couple's bodies downstream several hours later. They were rushed to the hospital and later pronounced dead from drowning. Minami shared another post paying tribute to the couple. "My brother and [Teitei] should be climbing a mountain in heaven together," she wrote.
