President Donald Trump seems to be admitting that inflation is a real problem, but of course, he believes he’s not responsible for it. As Americans deal with financial pressure because of higher prices, Trump has dismissed concerns about the state of the economy, calling “affordability” a “fake word” made up by Democrats.
More recently, he suggested that inflation actually is a problem — but one created by Former President Joe Biden, not him. And people are sensing a pattern.
Trump frequently blames Biden for the problems people are dealing with.

A lot of his critics have wondered when he’ll stop blaming the former president. Apparently not any time soon. At this point, Trump has been in office for about a year and a half. On Tuesday, July 14, Trump said, “Inflation’s down. We inherited the worst inflation in the history of our country. They say 48 years, it was the worst in the history of our country from Biden, Sleepy Joe.”
How exactly did Biden manage to cause so much damage while being so “sleepy?” Trump addressed this. “He might have been sleepy, but boy he could create inflation like nobody,” Trump claimed. “And I inherited that, and I got blamed for it, and it’s not my fault.”
According to him, he’s “doing a great job” and “prices are coming way down.”
On social media, people quickly called him out for refusing to take accountability.

Were people surprised that Trump blamed Biden? No. Critics have noticed that when things aren’t going well, it couldn’t possibly be Trump’s fault. But when something works out, Trump tends to take credit for it. So, the state of the U.S. economy isn’t his fault, but when Walmart lowered its prices, he said he played a role in that.
On X, one person wrote that Trump’s logic seems to be, “Nothing is my fault. Ever. Unless it’s good.” Someone else said, “This man has walked through life with nothing ever ever ever being his fault.”
Still, the fact that he tried to blame Biden still felt ridiculous to people, even if it didn’t really surprise anyone, because is Biden really to blame for the Iran war or Trump’s tariffs?
Some people weren’t sure whether Trump was purposely being manipulative. They considered the possibility that Trump genuinely believes he is improving things. “Either he doesn’t think it’s his fault because he doesn’t understand what he’s doing, or he does know it’s his fault and lies about it,” another critic said. “Neither is good. Hard to decide which is worse.”
Meanwhile, others noted that regardless of what Trump says, people know how much things cost right now and they feel the impact of inflation. Calling it fake or blaming Biden for it won’t change that. “Trump can say that all he wants to… American people know better,” a critic said. “He thinks we are all idiots.”
Trump also bragged about inflation on Truth Social.
Early in the morning on Wednesday, July 15, he wrote, “Great News America! The Dumocrat caused inflation is way down from what it had been, and we will bring it down still further. MAGA!”
But people haven’t forgotten the comments he made in the past, like when he said, “I love the inflation.” In 2025, when Trump was questioned about why people were dealing with financial stress even though he claimed the economy was great, he acted like reports related to the high cost of living and economic hardship were just “a con job by the Democrats.”
