Critics Call ‘Freedom 250 Grand Prix’ More Wasteful Spending From Trump

Just because America’s 250th birthday was in July 2026, it doesn’t mean the United States is done celebrating. The White House also planned the Freedom 250 Grand Prix for August 2026 to keep the momentum going, and it’s exactly what it sounds like. As a first of its kind, the Freedom 250 Grand Prix is a race in Washington, D.C. in honor of the country’s birthday.

But when the White House shared a promo for the event on X (formerly Twitter), the post was met with criticisms from those who don’t understand the point of the race, especially financially. Some users commented to question why this was chosen as an event by Donald Trump. Others pointed out where government money could be allocated instead of yet another Washington celebration arranged by MAGA.

The Freedom 250 Grand Prix feels like a bit much, financially speaking.

The race takes place on the National Mall and it’s all seemingly about celebrating ‘Merica and Trump’s accomplishments in office. Or, according to some, his alleged accomplishments in office during his second term. The White House post on X features a traditional presidential car being transformed into an American flag-wrapped stock car ready to zoom around the National Mall. The post also boasts “American speed” and “American greatness.”

“This administration spends an extraordinary amount of energy advertising its own greatness instead of demonstrating it,” someone commented on the post. “If people were actually feeling safer, wealthier, freer, and more secure, you wouldn’t need to keep branding everything ‘AMERICAN GREATNESS.’ Results don’t need a slogan.”

It also screams yet another “let them eat cake” moment for the average American citizen.

“People can’t afford gas and this is what you are up to?” One such user added.

Another tired American wrote, “Can we just have access to jobs again? That would be better than a car race.”

Others accused the Trump Administration of focusing on the wrong things at a crucial time.

“So you push this crap instead of dealing with the botched war in Iran that we are losing despite repeated claims that we have destroyed Iran’s military,” someone commented on the X post.

The tickets for the Freedom 250 Grand Prix were snatched up pretty quickly.

Tickets to the Freedom Grand Prix were totally free to the public, but required pre-registration online in order to actually get the limited tickets to see the race up close and personal on the National Mall. If you don’t have tickets, though, you can probably walk close enough to the event, since the roads are expected to be far too congested for actual everyday traffic. So, you know, there’s that.

The Freedom 250 Grand Prix website advertised two ticket types for two different viewing areas: star tickets and stripe tickets, which is really what you would expect from the event. But in terms of paid tickets, the event also offers Freedom 250 Grand Prix Champions Club Passes for more than $3,500 for one day of the event.

Some locals think it’s going to be a disaster.

MAGA supporters with and without Freedom 250 Grand Prix tickets were expected to arrive in Washington for the event, but where does that leave locals who actually have to get around the city during the same weekend of the first-of-its-kind race? According to a Reddit post, it all equals a giant headache for Washington residents.

“It’s going to be a complete disaster,” one user commented. “Most of my friends are leaving the city that weekend.”

Another wrote, “I’ve never been near one of these races, but I’ve heard from people who have that the volume is crazy loud and carries a long distance. I’ve been warned that it’s very disruptive.”
