Trump Claims He Was ‘Just Having Fun’ When Talking About Not Getting Into Heaven

While addressing the National Prayer Breakfast on February 5, President Donald Trump continued to reflect on whether or not he’ll “make it to heaven.” Previously, Trump admitted that he’s “not maybe heaven-bound,” but during the recent speech, he said he was “being funny” when he made those comments.

Though he played his previous comments off as a joke, he still said he’s “not a perfect candidate” for heaven. However, he now believes he “probably should make it.”

Trump appeared to take credit for religion being “hotter than ever.”

We all know that Trump loves to evaluate whether things are hot or not. And according to him, “religion is back now hotter than ever before.” He explained that despite “all of these good things [he’s] doing, including for religion,” he’s not totally sure if he “qualifies” for heaven.

He thought back to his previous comments about whether he was “heaven-bound” and how they made headlines. He said, “I was being funny; I was trying to be. You know, you can’t be sarcastic with them because they write your words and they don’t — the people who are reading the words are much different than that.”

He continued, “But I said I’m never going to make it to heaven. I just don’t think I qualify. I don’t think there’s a thing I can do. But all of these good things I’m doing, including for religion. You know, religion is back now hotter than ever before. I mean, I have to tell you. But I said even though I did that and so many other things, I named things, I said I won’t qualify, I’m not going to make it to heaven.”

But when he said this, he was actually “just having fun.”

Reacting to how the media covered his previous comments about heaven, Trump suggested that what he said was not meant to be taken so seriously. “The New York Times did a front-page story that Donald Trump is questioning his life and the meaning of his life,” Trump recalled. “No, I was just having fun.”

Apparently, he has some reason to think he might “make it” — maybe? Probably? He added, “I really think I probably should make it. I mean, I’m not a perfect candidate, but I did a hell of a lot of good for perfect people.”

Elsewhere in his speech, Trump described Speaker of the House Mike Johnson as “a very religious person” who does not hide it.” He said he likes to spend time around Johnson for this exact reason. “He’s a very religious person and he is popular and he’s doing an unbelievable job,” Trump said. “So, I think God is watching over you. God is watching over him. I don’t know about me. So, I hang around with him because I feel I’m protected a little bit.”
