Trump’s Latest White House Renovation Reveals Everything About His Aesthetic Philosophy

President Donald Trump has made a lot of changes to the White House since taking office again, and critics have complained that his style is rather… tacky. He seems to really love gold embellishments, and the changes he’s made to the Cabinet Room make that very clear. Before Trump made changes to the room, it was pretty basic and very minimally decorated. But now, it’s adorned in gold and decorated with numerous portraits.

It certainly looks like Trump picked the decor out himself.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino Jr. recently shared a video that showcased the room’s dramatic makeover.

And the whole space is… covered in gold. The video showed the 24-karat gold decals that Trump added to the walls of the previously minimalistic space, along with the gold curtains Trump selected. Even the presidential portraits hanging on the walls have gold frames.

Previously, Trump boasted about these changes. “The vaults are where we have a lot of great pictures and artwork,” he told reporters, per Business Insider. “And I picked it all myself.” Yes, everyone can tell. He added that he’s “very proud of” the redecoration.

He also took to social media to brag about the 24-karat gold decals. “Foreign Leaders, and everyone else, ‘freak out’ when they see the quality and beauty,” he wrote on Truth Social, according to the publication.

In addition to adding lots and lots of gold, Trump decorated the space with multiple flags.

Now, there are flags from every U.S. military branch inside the Cabinet Room, thanks to Trump’s design. He also added decorative ceiling medallions. Presumably, most of the people reacting to Scavino Jr.’s post about the redesign are people who support Trump, so the comments were overwhelmingly positive. In the comments, people called the transformation beautiful. Kari Lake, who Trump previously appointed to lead the U.S. Agency for Global Media (before that appointment was deemed illegal), wrote, “This is the greatest makeover in the history of America. The Trump House is amazing.”

But Trump critics have spoken out against all of the changes Trump has made to the White House, as they’ve argued that it belongs to the people and is not his house.

Critics also find Trump’s personal style “gaudy.”

Given that Trump has made so many changes to the White House so far, his style has been dissected many times at this point. In one thread on Reddit, one critic called Trump’s changes to the White House “the product of a man with no taste.”

Another critic sarcastically called Trump “a man of the working people” and added, “Just goes to show, once again, no matter how much money you have, you can’t buy class.”

Someone else argued that it “seems to also be a sign of Trump’s greed and insecurity that he has to be surrounded by gold embellishments.” While Trump appears to love this kind of decor, there are definitely a decent number of people who think it makes him look like “a tacky low-class clown,” as one person put it.
