It is safe to speculate that this was not the year that Tucker Carlson had planned for himself. On April 24, 2023, he parted ways with Fox News. He had been with the network since 2009.
Now Tucker is firing back in an attempt to pave the way for his next move, a show on Twitter. Axios is reporting on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, his lawyers sent a letter to the Fox network accusing them of fraud and breach of contract. This would make his noncompete clause invalid.
The letter, which does not mince words, came from Tucker's lawyer Bryan Freedman and was addressed to Fox officials Viet Dinh and Irena Briganti. It accuses Fox of making broken promises to Tucker "intentionally and with reckless disregard for the truth." In other words, fraud. One of these promises was to not leak Tucker’s private communications in the Dominion Voting Systems case.
The letter points out several instances where Fox allegedly breached its contract with Tucker. One of these was Irena Briganti’s actions to "undermine, embarrass, and interfere" with Tucker’s future career opportunities.
"Make no mistake, we intend to subpoena Ms. Briganti’s cell phone records and related documents, which evidence communications with her and all media, including, but not limited to The New York Times," the letter threatened.

Tucker's contract with Fox is valid until January 2025. This means he is not able to work for anyone else until then. Shortly after sending the letter to Fox, Tucker announced his new show on Twitter.
"Starting soon we'll be bringing a new version of the show we've been doing for the last six and a half years to Twitter," Tucker explained. "We bring some other things too, which we'll tell you about. But for now we're just grateful to be here. Free speech is the main right that you have. Without it, you have no others."
Time will tell if this letter is just the beginning of a future lengthy legal battle.
