There was nothing wrong with Josh Duhamel's relationship with Fergie, but they were different people, he explained on the In Depth With Graham Bensinger podcast. Josh opened up about the divorce and his experience co-parenting with his singer ex-wife.
Josh and Fergie were married for eight years. Fergie filed for divorce in 2019. The former couple shares one kid. "I’ve made peace with that part of my life," the actor explained. "She and I have a great relationship. We’re both raising that boy together. There wasn’t anything wrong with [our relationship]. We had a great time. But I think we just kind of outgrew each other and had very different interests."
Josh and Fergie had different lifestyle preferences and personalities, despite getting along well. "The older I got, the more I wanted to come back here, and this is not for her," Josh said of his move back to North Dakota. "But I’ve got no hard feelings for it. I truly don’t. I’m very lucky that she’s a kind human.”
Josh loves the outdoors and never felt that comfortable with the Hollywood way of life. He explained that what he really loves is being in nature, being active, and being creative, and he needs to have that outlet available to him.

Though he admitted that he is more used to "Hollywood stuff" now than he was before, he loves being able to spend some of his time out in nature. "I don’t think I ever really got comfortable with all of it. It was just a lot," he said, speaking of Hollywood. "I just missed the simplicity of who I really am. I’m just not a guy who is comfortable going to red carpets, doing all the Hollywood stuff."
He's grateful for the opportunities he has had, but still doesn't want to partake in that lifestyle. “Hollywood, LA, and that whole lifestyle can suck the soul out of you if you’re not careful," he added.
Although he and Fergie are very different, Josh spoke highly of Fergie and said they are both involved in parenting their "awesome" son, Axl. When Graham Bensinger asked him about how he co-parents with an ex, he said, "we both have good examples of what not to do" because both of them had parents who got divorced.
Josh and Fergie both had parents that didn't get along well with each other after getting divorced, so they didn't want the same for their kid. "Whatever differences we may have had, we had to figure that out and be a positive example for Axl," he said.
Figuring out how to make co-parenting work wasn't that challenging for the former couple since they had the same priorities. "We both wanted the same thing and that is to create an easy place for him that isn’t awkward or uncomfortable or pressure filled. That’s it," Josh explained.
Josh is now married to Audra Mari, a 29-year-old model. Josh said he and Audra bonded over their love for North Dakota, adding that they also both love family, kids, and lake life.
In September 2023, they announced that they are expecting a baby together in a joint Instagram post. "Baby Duhamel coming soon " the post read. Audra also posted a photo showcasing her baby bump earlier this month. She captioned the photo with, "A beautiful night with our +1 "
