Emma, a seasoned professional flight attendant, made her way down the plane aisle to check on the passengers. Her calm demeanor and gentle smile immediately put most nervous passengers at ease.
A woman named Claire was aboard the flight as she was travelling to visit her sister. She wasn’t normally someone who experienced anxiety when she flew, but a man was sitting by her who was constantly fidgeting in his seat and looking up nervously whenever someone from the flight crew passed by.
As Emma walked down the aisle making eye contact with anyone who might need something, Claire tried to catch her eye. She was able to discreetly gesture to the man nearby who was making her nervous.
Emma made a mental note about the man Claire was referring to and nodded to let her know that she would keep an eye on him throughout the flight. Even though she felt a little better, Claire’s nerves were at an all-time high as she simply couldn’t shake the feeling that something bad was going to happen.
As Emma walked past Claire’s seat approximately 20 minutes later, Claire handed her a cup of milk with the words “help me” written on the side.

When Emma saw this, along with the fear in Claire’s eyes, she knew she needed to take action. She quickly went to tell the pilot that something needed to happen. She asked if there could be an emergency landing. They complied and began a safe descent.
